During “Hakata Old Town Light Up Walk 2018 Sennen Koya”, many temples and shrines which have passed down Hakata’s long history and traditions from generation to generation will be beautifully illuminated and their profound allurement will be profiled in the lights.

This event is held in hope that the town of Hakata will remain its glittering prosperity for years to come.

Marking its 777th anniversary this year, “Hakata-ori” will be the theme of all light-up performances at each venue.

Including the rock garden of Jotenji Temple which depicts the Genkai Sea, the main gate or Rokkaku-do (hexagonal sanctum) of Tochoji Temple, temples and shrines will be lit up in various patterns to create a fantastic scenery with breathtaking beauty.
The appearances which are totally different from daytime will certainly impress you.

It is also valuable that places where people are not allowed to enter at other times will be open to public during this event.
Furthermore, enjoy the Special Night Exhibit of the Great Buddha of Fukuoka at Tochoji Temple (only on Sat/Sun), the food stalls lining up along Kushida Shrine, and many other events as well.
