Hakata will be spectacularly illuminated.
In “Hakata Light Up Walk 2017 Sennen Koya”, now entering its 12th year, many temples and shrines that have passed down Hakata’s long history and culture from generation to generation will be beautifully illuminated and their profound allurement will be profiled in the light.
This annual light-up event is held in hope that the town of Hakata will remain glittering prosperity for years to come.
The theme of “Hakata Gion Yamakasa” registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, will be incorporated in the patterns and designs of shrine and temple light-up this year.
Additionally, Kakiyama float of the Seven Higashi Nagare raced up in the town of Hakata this summer will be displayed at Jotenji Temple.
Fantastic views of temples and shrines including the rock garden depicted the Genkai Sea of Jotenji Temple, and temple gate and Rokkakudo (hexagonal hall) of Tochoji Temple lit up beautifully and in various patterns will surely take your breath away, and you’ll be touched by their completely different appearance shapes from the daytime.
It is valuable that many places where people are not allowed to step in at other times will be open to public only during the event.
Don’t miss the gourmet food stalls on the ground of Kushida Shrine and Jotenji Temple, and the tea ceremony at Engakuji Temple.
