Hojoya – Festival that Announces the Arrival of Autumn to Hakata
Hojoya is one of the three major festivals in Hakata along with Hakata Dontaku and Hakata Gion Yamakasa. In this Shinto festival with a history of over 1,000 years, people express their appreciation for rich harvest of autumn, care for all living things and warn themselves against needless killing.
During the festival period from September 12th to 18th, various Shinto rituals will be held at the festival site of Hakozaki-gu Shrine.
The festival is one of the largest crowd-puller autumn festivals in Kyushu, with the approach to the shrine lined by about 500 street stalls offering a variety of attraction and food such as a haunted house, shooting gallery, Yo-yo fishing and new ginger.
Please visit the festival and enjoy the autumn of Hakata.
